(main + corporate)
๐ง The technical foundations
The behind-the-scenes basics Google checks before it will rank a site well.
Both johnndawsontraining.com and corporate.johnndawsontraining.com use free, auto-renewing Let's Encrypt certificates. Anyone typing http:// is moved to the secure version automatically.
www.johnndawsontraining.com now permanently redirects to johnndawsontraining.com, so Google sees one website, not two copies competing with each other.
Each page tells Google its one true address, so links with extra bits on the end don't split the page's ranking.
Every page is built to fit a phone screen with no sideways scrolling. Google ranks sites by how they work on a phone, and most tradies will be on one.
Pages are compressed before they're sent (the home page shrinks from about 15 KB to 4 KB), and there are no heavy plugins or page builders slowing things down.
A sitemap lists every page we want found, so search engines don't have to guess. Both websites have one.
Tells search engines what to read and what to skip. The admin area and behind-the-scenes code are kept out of search results.
The "coming soon" Silica, PPE and White Card pages, and the private live-class page, are marked "don't index" for now. Google judges a site on its weakest pages, so thin placeholders stay hidden until they're built.
๐ What Google reads on each page
How each page describes itself in search results and when it's shared.
Each title says what the page is and who it's from, e.g. "Free Asbestos Awareness 11084NAT Practice Test ยท Johnn Dawson Training". This is the blue link people click in Google.
The short summary that shows under the link in Google, written to make people want to click.
11084NAT, 10830NAT and CPCCWHS1001 appear in titles, headings and descriptions, because that's exactly what students and employers type into Google.
When a page is shared, it shows a proper title, description and photo instead of a bare link.
๐งฉ Structured data: facts machines can read
Hidden labels (schema.org) that spell out the facts so Google and AI tools don't have to guess.
Johnn Dawson Training as an educational organisation: name, phone, email, logo, and that it serves the ACT and NSW.
Johnn Dawson, Training Facilitator & Assessor, and what he knows about: asbestos, silica, White Card, respirators and fit testing, SWMS.
The Asbestos Awareness, Asbestos Removal Code and SWMS study guides are labelled as free online courses, with course codes where they apply. This can make them eligible for Google's course listings.
The corporate page lists each service on offer and answers common questions (group sizes, recognition, areas covered) in a format Google can show directly in results.
๐ค AI search: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot
More and more people ask an AI assistant instead of searching. These tools can only recommend sites they can read and understand.
The robots file names and allows the crawlers used by OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), Perplexity, Google (Gemini), Apple and Microsoft (Bing / Copilot). Many websites block these by accident; this one doesn't.
Some hosting services block AI bots by default. This site's traffic goes straight to its own server, so nothing in between turns them away.
A plain-text summary written for AI tools: who Johnn is, which courses, which areas, how to book and how to get in touch, with links to the right pages. Both sites have one.
AI assistants quote pages that answer questions clearly. The study guides do exactly that: "What is friable asbestos?", "When is a SWMS required?", "What are the 18 high risk construction work triggers?"
Name, phone number, courses, partner training organisations and service area match on every page, in the structured data and in llms.txt. AI tools trust a business more when the facts agree.
๐ Content that earns its place
Google's rule of thumb: rank pages that genuinely help people. That's the heart of this site.
Asbestos Awareness, the Asbestos Removal Code of Practice, and SWMS & High Risk Construction Work, with interactive checkers, galleries and practice tests. This is the kind of useful, original material people link to and come back to.
corporate.johnndawsontraining.com targets businesses looking for group training, with its own titles, structured data, sitemap and enquiry form. Johnn can personalise the link for each lead.
Study guides link to practice tests, the About page links to the employer page, and menus connect the modules. This helps Google understand how the site fits together.
๐ Next steps
The website itself is set up. These steps happen outside it, and they're what turns a well-built site into one that ranks.
Ownership verified with Google, and the site added to Bing. Both sitemaps are submitted to both, and Google has been asked to index the employer page and the SWMS study guide first. Bing also feeds ChatGPT and Copilot.
Puts Johnn Dawson Training on Google Maps and in "near me" searches across Canberra and NSW.
Ask students and employers after each course. Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking signals, and AI tools mention them too.
A link from Eclipse Education, Licences 4 Work or local industry groups tells Google the site is trusted.
Each finished guide becomes another page that can rank, and is switched back on for Google when it goes live.
